Welcome! Here’s a little bit about me…
Kate Reynolds is a Baltimore-based violinist and violist, devoted to both performance and teaching. Shaped by the guidance of her own mentors, she discovered a passion for music education that continues to guide her artistry and pedagogy today. A St. Louis native, she began studying violin at the age of nine through her public school’s music program, later taking private lessons with Deborah Bloom and Joo Kim of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. A highlight of her early career was traveling to New York City and performing at Carnegie Hall with her school orchestra.
During her graduate studies, Kate was a part of Peabody’s Interplay Program, mentoring students through private lessons, masterclasses, and chamber music coachings at the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). She taught private lessons and coached chamber ensembles for the Peabody Preparatory, completing weekly lesson observations and working alongside faculty. Additionally, she taught group violin classes for the Bridges Program, providing free instruments and instruction to students in Baltimore City schools.
As an active performer in the DMV area, Kate plays with the Annapolis Symphony, Old Bay New Music Ensemble, Mount Vernon Virtuosi, and Musica Viva of Southwest Virginia. For the past two summers, she attended the Aspen Music Festival and School, performing with the Conducting Academy Orchestra under a full fellowship. Other festival experiences include the Chautauqua Instrumental Program, Interlochen Arts Camp, Arianna Chamber Music Festival, Rocky Ridge Music Center, and Green Mountain Chamber Music Festival. During her undergraduate studies, Kate was a finalist in the Vanderbilt University Concerto Competition and received honorable mention for her performance of Paul Hindemith’s Viola Concerto Der Schwanendreher. She has performed in masterclasses for Brian Chen, Edgar Meyer, Grigory Kalinovsky, Marcin Arendt, and Marc Vanscheeuwijck. Equally passionate about chamber music, she has played for and worked with members of the Verona, Cavani, Balourdet, Audubon, and Arianna String Quartets.
Kate completed her Master of Music degree in Viola Performance and Violin/Viola Pedagogy at the Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, where she studied with Victoria Chiang. During her studies at Peabody, she received the Artistic Excellence Award and the Israel Dorman Memorial Award, and she was inducted into Pi Kappa Lambda in recognition of outstanding musical achievement and academic scholarship. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance, with a minor in Viola Performance, at Vanderbilt University under the guidance of Carolyn Huebl and Christina McGann. Other important music mentors in her life include Choong-Jin Chang, Kathryn Plummer, Lynne Ramsey, and Patrick Jackson.
Outside of music, Kate enjoys thrifting, hosting friends, and spending time outdoors. She is also active on Instagram (@katereynolds.music) sharing her musical journey as a young artist and teacher.
